The Martín Gonzalo Dam was built in 1983 and began operating in 1987. The Martín Gonzalo Reservoir is located in the bed of the Martín Gonzalo stream, in the municipalities of Montoro and Cardeña, in the province of Córdoba. Other nearby reservoirs are the Yeguas Reservoir, the Marmolejo Reservoir and the Encinarejo Reservoir.
